The character 以 is a cursive variant of old augmented forms of the character ​已(​㠯); in the modern form 以(⿰​厶​人) the left-side part ​ (2 strokes) derives from the component ​厶, which is an old abbrev. of ​已 (as in ​台, ​允); on the right side of 以 the component ​人 was added to distinguish old meanings of ​已 later wr. 以/​似; cf. ​已.
