The Shuōwén Seal form of 也 yě ‘pudenda’ is said to depict the female private parts (​女​陰 nǚyīn ‘vulva’, ⚋), with the component ​乁 yí ‘flow/move’ (phonosemantic); formerly also wr. ​𠃟.
    Note: In SW the character 也 is often used as a phrase/sentence-final modal particle, indicating assertion/definition that X ‘means/signifies’ Y (constructions in the form “X, Y 也”).
