The Shuōwén Seal form of 角(𧢲) jiǎo ‘horn/antler’ is said to depict the horn/antler (or horns/antlers) of a horned animal (sheep/goat, ox, yak, deer, rhinoceros, etc.).
Old inscriptional forms associated with 角 suggest two down-turned horns of an ox (Zebu; 驼峰牛, cf. 牛); perhaps the old graph is inverted, or from the perspective of the ox-driver (snout is above, two curved horns below), and was later re-interpreted as depicting a single horn.
Note: An alternative theory is that the old graph depicts a 饺子 jiǎozi ‘dumpling’ (粉角, cf. 餃), repurposed to write homophonous ‘horn’.
