The Shuōwén Seal form of 作 zuò ‘arise/make’ combines 亻(人 rén) ‘person’, and 乍(𠆦) zhà (phonosemantic); formerly wr. 乍, and also 迮 cf. 乍.
    Note: SW glosses both 作 and 迮 with 起 qǐ ‘rise/raise/stir/start up’ (起来); the primary meaning 作 zuò ‘make/made; create; write/written’ is evident in SW usage in the glosses of other characters.
