The character 同 (6 strokes) is used in both simple and full-form texts, but in simple-form texts it is sometimes an abbrev. of the full-form character 衕 (12 strokes), cf. 衕.
The Shuōwén Seal form of 同 tóng ‘same/together’ (a lidded copper vessel) combines 𠔼 mǎo ‘cover/lid’, and 口 ‘mouth’ (of a vessel; thing): things (品) of the same class, altogether (under the same covering, consolidated in the same class).
