(Explanation from the entry for the simple form 过:) The Shuōwén Seal form of 过/過(􀒟) guò ‘pass/exceed/error’ combines 辶(辵 chuò) ‘go’, and 呙/咼(􀏫) wāi/guō ‘skull/dismember; askew/error’ (phonosemantic); cf. 祸/禍(􀁕) huò ‘disaster/calamity/misfortune’.
    In the simple form 过, the full-form 過 component 咼 becomes 寸 ‘measure’ (not 呙), as an exceptional safe-guard against error/disaster.
    Note: The standard simple form 过 is an old common (俗字) form; it is not wr. 𬨨 (cf. 呙).
