The Shuōwén Seal form of 法(㳒) fǎ ‘law/penalty’ (刑法) is an abbrev. of the main SW form 𢌇(灋) combining 氵/水 shuǐ ‘water (level/even/fair)’ (as in 治 ‘rule’, 笵, cf. 井/丼, 㓝/𠛜), 廌 zhì ‘legendary unicorn’ (解廌) able to straighten the crooked, tell right from wrong, decide human quarrels (cf. 豸), and 去(㚎厺) qù ‘remove/eliminate’ evils/errors; formerly also wr. 佱, with 亼 jí together (as in 仑/侖 ‘think/reason’, and 令 ‘command’) and 正(㱏) zhèng ‘right/true’.
    Note: 灋 : …法之正人, 如廌之去惡… ‘... the law corrects men, just as the mythical 解廌 xièzhì eliminates evils/errors ...’ (DYC).
