The Shuōwén Seal form of 西(㢴𧟢) xī ‘west’ is said to depict a 𠄎(𠄕) bird sitting on its 囪 nest/egg; cf. 䙴.
Compare: 栖/棲 qī ‘(birds) perch/roost’, the full form of which 棲 is one of several old SW variants of 西(㢴卥卤).
Compare: 拪(𢰕𨙞遷𦦒䙲) qiān ‘climb (to get a nest/egg)’; 囟(𦥓) xìn ‘fontanelle’.

Compare: 巢(𤔥) cháo ‘nest’ (SW: bird in a tree), in which a shape like 𦥑 or 臼 represents the nest (cf. 𤔥, 孚); 昔(㫺) xī ‘past’. The top of the Seal 㢴 is like 乃(𢎜𠄎𠄕) nǎi, or 𡆳 yún ‘clouds’, and the bottom is like 囪(𡆧) ‘vent/chimney’ (setting sun as dying ember). The word 东(東) dōng ‘east’ also has a ‘tree’, but with 日 rì ‘sun’.
