The Shuōwén Seal form of 西(㢴𧟢) xī ‘west’ is said to depict a 𠄎(𠄕) bird sitting on its 囪 nest/egg (cf. 䙴); formerly also wr. 棲, 卥, 卤.
    Compare: 栖/棲 qī ‘(birds) perch/roost’, the full form of which 棲 is one of several old SW variants of 西(㢴卥卤); cf. 讯/訊(𧨼).
    Compare: 拪(𢰕𨙞遷𦦒䙲) qiān ‘climb (to get a nest/egg)’ (cf. 䙴); 囟(𦥓) xìn ‘fontanelle’ (cf. 思).
