The Shuōwén Seal form of 完 wán ‘complete/whole/intact’ (完全) combines 宀 mián ‘roof’ (covering), and 元 yuán ‘beginning/primitive’ (phonosemantic); formerly also used for 寬 kuān ‘spacious rooms’, and hence the 宀 component.
