The Shuōwén Seal form of 也 yě ‘pudenda’ is said to depict the female private parts (女陰 nǚyīn ‘vulva’, ⚋), with the component 乁 yí ‘flow/move’ (phonosemantic); formerly also wr. 𠃟.
    Note: In SW the character 也 is often used as a phrase/sentence-final modal particle, indicating assertion/definition that X ‘means/signifies’ Y (constructions in the form “X, Y 也”).
    Compare: 心 xīn ‘heart’; 它(㐌) tā ‘it; other’ (component variation 它/也 is common); 蛇 shé ‘snake’.
    Older graphs associated with 也 are said to depict a 匜 yí ‘gourd-shaped water/wine vessel (with troughed-spout and handle)’; note that 乁 yí ‘flow/move’ is glossed 流 in SW, which is the name of the troughed spout of such vessels (cf. 流).
