(Explanation from the entry for the simple form 讲:) The simple-form character 讲 (6 strokes) is an abbrev. of the full-form character 講 (17 strokes), simplifying the full-form component 言 to 讠, and replacing the full-form component 冓 (10 strokes) with 井 (4 strokes).
Note: In the simple form 讲 jiǎng, the full-form component 冓 gòu/gōu, becomes 井 jǐng (phonetic), a better indication of MSC pronunciation.
The Shuōwén Seal form of 讲/講(𧪿) jiǎng ‘haggle/discuss/reconcile’ (讲和) combines 讠/言 (yán) ‘direct speech’, and 冓() gòu (phonosemantic); become balanced/reconciled after haggling/discussion.
