The Shuōwén Seal form of 云(􂀉) yún ‘clouds’ (mountain/river spirit) combines the old form of 上(􀀆𠄞􀀇丄) shàng ‘heavens/above’ (as in 雨, 示), with a shape like 厶(􁣶) below representing swirling mist/clouds; formerly wr. 𡆳(􂀊), in the main SW form 雲(􂀈) the upper component is 雨(􁿏) ‘rain’ instead of 上/𠄞.
    Note: (书) 云 yún ‘say’ (语云 ‘it is said’) is a borrowing, an old contraction of 语言 yǔyán.
