The Shuōwén Seal form of 经/經 jīng ‘warp (of a loom)’ combines 纟/糸 (sī) ‘silk/thread’, and 𢀖/巠 jīng ‘(liquid/thread) channel’ (phonosemantic); formerly wr. 巠, cf. 𢀖.
    Note: The component 𢀖/巠 is sometimes said to be an old wr. of 经/經 jīng ‘warp (threads); channel/through; blood vessels’, depicting warp threads on a loom (through which the weft passes).
    Compare: 纬/緯 wěi ‘weft/woof (of a loom)’; 织/織 zhī ‘weave (textiles/fabric)’; 缋/繢(𦇣) huì ‘thrums (warp head/tail threads)’.
