 also came to be written 㠯󰀁 yǐ, which is an old form of 以. Then  was reduced to , slightly distorted into 𠄌 plus 丶, and for the meaning “use as, consider as”, 人 rén ‘person’ was added to the right side, resulting in 以.
The old form of 以 is 㠯(􂥷), also written 已; the reduced form is seen in some compounds (台􀎟牟􀌠); the distorted form 以 has 𠄌 on the left plus 丶, and for the meaning “use as, consider as”, 人 rén ‘person’ on the right (compare 􁗢佀似, with 人亻 on the left).
以 yǐ is phonetic in 似 sì.
以 yǐ is said to be the phonetic in 似 sì, but not in the Simple form 拟(F擬) nǐ.
