The Shuōwén Seal form of 张/張 zhāng ‘string a bow; draw a bow (and shoot)’ combines 弓 (gōng) ‘bow’, and 长/長 cháng/zhǎng/etc. ‘long/grow/etc.’ (phonosemantic).
