The simple-form character 会 (6 strokes) is an abbrev. of the full-form character 會 (13 strokes), keeping the upper full-form part 亼 (3 strokes), and replacing the rest (10 strokes) with a shape like 𠫔 (3 strokes).
Note: In the simple form 会 the bottom part looks like 云 yún ‘clouds’, as in 层/層 céng ‘layer/level’, but 云 is not a traditional component of 会/會 (cf. 气 below).
The Shuōwén Seal form of 會 huì ‘come/put together, meet’ is said to combine 亼 jí ‘together’ (as in 合), and 曾 zēng/céng (abbrev.); formerly wr. 㣛, with the old form of 合 on the right, and 气 qì ‘steam’ on the left (not 彳), as in 欠.
Note: The component 曾 here is assoc. with 增 zēng ‘increase’ (stack/pile up/together, layer upon layer), formerly wr. 曾.
