The full-form character ​漢(​𤁉) hàn ‘river name’ (汉​水) combines ​氵(​水 shuǐ) ‘water’, and ​難(​𩁘​𪇠​𪄿) nán ‘difficult’ (abbrev. phonetic).
    In the simple form 汉 the right-side full-form component ​難 is first simplified to ​难, and then abbreviated to ​又 (omitting ​隹).
    Note: The full-form sub-component ​(​𡏳​𦰩​堇) qín/jìn ‘sticky/rich clay/mud’ is an old character, also wr. ​𦻍(​𦻋), no longer much used as an independent character except in the form ​堇, conflated with ​蓳 ‘violet’; it is simplified to ​又 in compound characters; it is the phonetic in (and an old wr. of) several characters.
