The full-form character 漢(􁶼𤁉) hàn ‘river name’ (汉水) combines 氵(水 shuǐ) ‘water’, and 難(􀩌𩁘􀩋𪇠𪄿) nán ‘difficult’ (abbrev. phonetic).
The right side  or 又 is short for 暵 hàn (‘parched’) phonetic. Compare () jiān, 难() nán, and 叹() tàn.
