(Explanation from the entry for the simple form 产:) The simple-form character 产 (6 strokes) is an abbrev. of the variant 産 (11 strokes) of the full-form character 產 (11 strokes), omitting the inner component 生 (5 strokes).
The full-form character 產 (Big5) is also sometimes wr. 産 (HDZ), though the form 產 more closely follows the Seal.
The Shuōwén Seal form of 產() chǎn ‘to produce (offspring/fruit/goods)’ combines 生(𤯓) shēng ‘bear/produce’, and 彦/彥() yàn ‘able/exceptional/famous (productive) man’ (abbrev. phonosemantic).
