(S) [jiǎng] speak

One monosyllabic entry in The ABC Chinese-English Comprehensive Dictionary (namespace Ci):

¹jiǎng [] {A} v.speak; say; tellexplain; make clear; interpretdiscuss; negotiatestress; pay attention to; be particular aboutb.f. discourse; lecture ►yạ̌njiǎng 演讲cov. as far as sth. is concerned; as to/regards∼ tiàowǔ, tā bǐ shuí dōu xíng. ∼跳舞, 她比谁都行。 As for dancing, she's the best.

(Explanation from the entry for the simple form :) The simple-form character (6 strokes) is an abbrev. of the full-form character 講 (17 strokes), simplifying the full-form component to , and replacing the full-form component (10 strokes) with (4 strokes).
Note: In the simple form jiǎng, the full-form component gòu/gōu, becomes jǐng (phonetic), a better indication of MSC pronunciation.
The Shuōwén Seal form of /講(􀚔𧪿) jiǎng ‘haggle/discuss/reconcile’ () combines / (yán) ‘direct speech’, and (􀪷) gòu (phonosemantic); become balanced/reconciled after haggling/discussion.
    Note: /講(􀚔𧪿) jiǎng ← MC /koŋʔ/; (􀪷) gòu/gōu ← MC /kus/ku/ (SBGY).
    Compare: jiǎng ‘plough/till’; jiǎng/gòu ‘ugly/stupid’.
    Compare: /(􁅉) gòu ‘purchase/buy (haggle over trade-goods)’.
Compare: gòu ‘mate/spouse’ (䷫); (􂉯) gòu ‘unite in marriage’.
Compare: hòu, (􀒵) hòu ‘(happen to) meet/encounter’ (䷫).
