The Shuōwén Seal form of 疾() jí ‘illness/critical/urgent’ combines 疒(𤕫) nè ‘(tired/exhausted/sick) bed’, and 矢() shǐ ‘arrow’ (phonosemantic); formerly wr. 𥏴(), in which the component 𠥻() is an old form of the same character.
Note: In 疾 the right-side component 矢 shǐ ‘arrow’ functions as in 知() zhī ‘know/knowledge’: thoughts are quick/instant, knowledge is urgent/critical (XK); cf. 知/智.
