"watch" isn't a very good match for 收视 because

1) "watch" is transitive and 收视 isn't. (See the note in Guifan Cidian's definition.)

2) the scope of "watch" is much wider than that of 收视. (For example, 收视 can't be used to express "watch the sun go down".)

Does it really always mean "watch TV"? If so, good change!

Does 收视 always mean "watch TV"? Well, it's more like "watch TV" than "watch", although, strictly speaking, it might include watching online videos etc. – one source defines it as 收看電視或電子影像。( https://www.moedict.tw/~%E6%94%B6%E8%A6%96 ). I'd say the 收 in 收视 refers to the reception of an electronic signal by a viewing device. Grand Ricci defines 收视 as "1. Regarder la télévision. 2. Audimat." The first sense presumably means "watch TV" and the second means "ratings (TV)" according to Wiktionary (though I'd have thought "ratings" would be 收视率). At any rate, I can't find any dictionary definition of 收视 that doesn't refer to TV.

Re: "Being There". Yes, I was wrong to say "watch" is transitive. So instead of saying "'watch' is transitive and 收视 isn't." I should say "'watch' is often transitive but 收视 is generally intransive." The note in Guifan Cidian's entry for 收视 says 跟“收看”不同。“收视”专业色彩较浓, 一般不带宾语; “收看”使用范围较广, 可带宾语。Richwarm (talk) 00:18, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
