I was wondering about your source for this change, splitting this entry into 上臺 and 上檯.

At first I didn't find any dictionary or other source supporting this, and it seemed to me that the entry you created with 上檯 should be written 上臺.

But now I have found the source, in an edition of Lin Yutang (1972), and this entry is also in the current online version:

96.上台 [shang4tai2]1, v.i., to go on the stage; (fig.) (of officials) to come into power, be appointed as premier, minister. 
97.上檯 [shang4tai2]2, v.i., to make a parade of bride's trousseau on the streets, including jewels, beddings, etc. 

The ABC Bibliography cites a later revision of Lin Yutang:

• Lai Ming and Lin Tai-yi, eds. New Lin Yutang Chinese-English Dictionary. Hong Kong: Panorama Press, 1987. [Especially useful for non-PRC terminology and parts of speech.]

And, I also find an entry for this in 《中文大辭典》 (1973 [1993]; #17.781).
