I recommend this entry be deleted, because the pronunciation seems incorrect, and there is already an entry for 山阿 with correct pinyin shān'ē.
1) Dictionaries say that 阿 (pronounced ē) can mean "twist/turn in the terrain" (Key) or （山、水等）彎曲之處。 [1], but there is no such meaning given in dictionaries for 阿 pronounced ā.
2) ABC's entry is based on the "Far East" dictionary ("ref vfe354c1"). I have two copies of that dictionary, one from the 1970s and one from the 1990s, and both of them give the pronunciation of 山阿 as shān'ē, not shān'ā. (Both define the word as "a bend in a mountain range".)
3) The only other dictionary I can see that says 山阿 can be shān'ā is Pleco's PLC. They have an entry that reads "山阿 shān'ā mountain bend". However, if you look up 阿 in PLC, there is no relevant sense of 阿 listed under ā; but under ē, PLC says "3. (literary) winding area 山阿 : shān'ē mountain bend". Which suggests that PLC's shān'ā is probably wrong. Anyway, MOE, KEY, Grand Ricci and HDC, all say 山阿 is shān'ē.

By the way, what is "a bend in a mountain range" supposed to mean? There are only 4 Google hits for the phrase "a bend in the mountain range", and the only Google result for "a bend in a mountain range" [2] appears to derive from Far East's definition. I think Far East probably intended to convey what Grand Ricci gives as its definition: "recoin dans la montagne".
