But Kuraishi doesn't say anything like "maybe; probably". His definition is 思いきってほうりっぱなしにして, which matches the HDC definition (完全撒手。比喻对事情放手不管。) quite well.
Web example: 他倒好，对这事儿不闻不问，“大撒巴掌”（放任自流）了。
Also, Kuraishi says 巴 has 1st tone.
