Re: "noise"

嚓嚓 is a specific type of noise. It's a noise similar to the sound "tsa": a ripping or scraping sound (模擬物體摩擦或撕裂的聲音 [1]). The GFC example (走廊上传来∼的脚步声。), used here in the ABC definition, would probably be better described as a scraping sound, as in these sentence pairs found on the Web:

  1. 她拖着腳走,鞋跟蹭着人行道嚓嚓作響。There was a scraping sound as she dragged the heels of her shoes along the pavement.
  2. He heard the scrape of footsteps up the stairs. 他听到有人上楼的嚓嚓的脚步声。
  3. "嚓上楼时嚓嚓的脚步声"英文翻译 the scrape of footsteps up the stairs

... as distinct from other types of footstep noise, such as in 走廊上传来咚咚的脚步声, which would be more of a thumping sound.

In other examples, 嚓嚓 is used to describe the sound of a pen on paper or a dog's paws on a door.
