In the example sentence (运动员们每年冬天在高原地区∼。), 集训 is a verb, so the example should come after the verb definition, rather than after the noun definition.
As a noun, "group training" would be correct, but 集训 is not necessarily done in a camp. Note that the Far East dictionary, which is recorded as the source of the "training camp" gloss, does not say "training camp". It says "a camp training". That's not very idiomatic English, but anyway, it doesn't suggest to me that 集训 is a camp of any sort, but rather, a kind of training.
As a verb, 集训 means "train as a group" rather than "assemble for training". It's as ABC's French definition states: s'entraîner ensemble. Examples: 我們以前常常從早上六點集訓到晚上八點，... (They trained from 6 to 8 am; they didn't "assemble for training" over that period.); 終年都在緊鑼密鼓地集訓 (They trained intensively; they didn't "intensively assemble for training.")
The French "groupe d'entraînement" seems to mean "training group" rather than "group training" so I deleted that.
