There are many different senses of "accept". Merriam-Webster lists six [1], but the only one that seems to apply to 接下 is 4b: "to agree to undertake (a responsibility)". Certainly, it's the sense of "accept" that most commonly applies to 接下. MoE defines 接下 as 接受、承擔。如：「他接下艱鉅的使命。」[2]
