1) Possibly, the pinyin should be two words (dà tàiyáng)?
RC: CE has some 1275 entries starting with 大, many of this type, most without space; the few cases where dà is followed by space are verbal constructions, where dà functions as an adverb. But there are exceptions, such as ... 大轰动[-轟動] : dà hōngdòng (n.) ‘blockbuster’; the usual pattern suggests that should be dàhōngdòng, I think. Anyway, regularized spacing is the least of our problems.
2) Example of usage: 農夫們在大太陽下除草,儘管大汗涔涔,還是繼續工作。 https://www.moedict.tw/%E5%A4%A7%E6%B1%97%E6%B6%94%E6%B6%94

A blockbuster is a book, play or film that achieves enormous commercial success. A 大轟動 is not a book, play or film. It's a sensation or hullabaloo. A 大轟動 is something a blockbuster may cause, but it isn't actually a blockbuster itself.
Examples:
張清來的觀光果園又新奇又懷舊,一開幕就造成大轟動,
Chang Ching-lai's recreational orchard created quite the sensation and lured them in in droves.
台灣鐵路局在民國八十九年推出「台灣鐵路懷舊便當」,造成大轟動,
In 2000, the Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA) first released its "Taiwan Rail Nostalgia Lunches" to a rapturous welcome from the public.
整个房间引起了一阵大轰动。
A great sensation was created throughout the room.
