ABC says "pass on a skill from a master to a single disciple" but these dictionaries say it's about transmission from a single master rather than to a single disciple.

6) The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary: pass on a skill from a single master to apprentices without influences from other schools

8) New Century: pass on a skill from one single master

9) Oxford Chinese Dictionary: pass on a skill from one single master

10) New Age: learn or derive (one's skill, etc.) from one master or school alone : 梅派單傳 be of the pure Mei Lanfang school
