The Shuōwén Seal form of 带/帶(􁓹) dài ‘(man's leather, or woman's silk) belt’ (紳) is said to combine a horizontal line representing the belt (worn at the waist of a person), with 卅/ vertical strokes representing tools/accessories (passed through) suspended from it, and 巾(􁓭) jīn ‘cloth’ with 冖(􁒧𠘨) layers of covering (for the 韨 apron and lower garment/skirt supported by the belt).
