The Shuōwén Seal form of 彼() bǐ ‘that’ combines 彳 (chì) ‘left/moving footstep’, and 皮(𡰻) pí ‘skin’ (phonosemantic): skin makes the difference between this and that; this thing here may be distinguished from that thing there by adding something between them (even just the thickness of a skin); by going some distance away from this place right here, covering some ground, one arrives at that place over there.
Note: In the SW gloss “往有所加”, 加 ‘add (on top)’ is in reference to the 皮 ‘skin’ component.
