The Shuōwén Seal form of 耕(􀰥𦓮) gēng ‘plough/till’ combines 耒 (lěi) ‘plough’ and 井(􀷎丼) jǐng ‘wellspring’ (phonosemantic); 井 in SW is defined with respect to the idyllic 井田 jǐngtián ‘well-field system’, of fields cultivated around a common wellspring (cf. 井).
