The Shuōwén Seal form of 𦘔(􀡈) jīn ‘decorated/carved (shaft of painting/writing) brush’ combines 聿(􀡆) yù ‘painting/writing brush’, and 彡(􁡩) shān ‘stripes/strokes’; to paint/write beautifully, it is best to use a beautiful brush.
Note: The component 彡 here is said to represent not simply brush strokes (in painting/writing), but decoration/carving on the shaft of the writing brush itself; “In the Writing Classic it is said: People often used polished/glazed ivory to make the shaft of the writing brush, beautifully/intricately carved/decorated and yet light; (the names of) decorated/decorative objects are often written with the 彡 component.” (XK).
