<WL>昜(=􁧕𠃓􂢨陽S阳) [yáng] cf. 陽/阳 male/light principle (); (component: 揚場陽暘湯楊…)@@; (HDZ:)

The old character 昜 yáng ‘male/light principle’ (later wr. 阳/陽), seems to have 旦 dàn ‘dawn’ over 勿 wù ‘don't’, but 旦(􁉛) is not a traditional component of 昜.
The Shuōwén Seal form of 昜(􁧕) yáng ‘open/clear up (of weather); fly/soar up’ is said to combine 日(􁈏) rì ‘sun/light’, 一(⚊) yáng ‘unbroken/strong/male line’ (阳爻, 阳卦爻), and a shape like 勿(􁧓􁧔𣃦) wù ‘red and white flag/banner (flying under the sun-driven the wind); not/don't’: the 一(⚊) yáng line in the middle of 昜 divides 日 ‘light’ (是 ‘truth/being’) from 勿 ‘dark’ (無/无 ‘false/nothing’); and so 勿 here stands for the 八(⚋) yīn ‘broken/weak/female line’ (陰爻, 陰卦爻), contrasting with 一(⚊) yáng (cf. 周易).

Note: In modern texts 昜 is not usually used as an independent character (it is wr. 陽 in full-form texts, or 阳 in simple-form texts); as a component 昜 usually becomes 𠃓 in simple-form characters (as in 旸), but there are exceptions (阳/陽, 傷/伤); cf. 𠃓.
Note: 昜 is not usually an independent character in modern simplified texts; as a component 昜 is usually simplified to 𠃓 (in 扬杨疡汤旸…); only in 陽/阳 is it simplified to 日 rì ‘sun/light’; in 傷/伤 it becomes 力 lì ‘strength’.

Compare: 易(􁨛) yì ‘easy; change’ (周易), in which the central line 一(⚊) is absent, since 易 encompasses both ⚋ and ⚊ (☯); 阴/陰(􂢧􂀌侌) yīn ‘female/dark principle’ (⚋).
+
Note: In (9 strokes) the component 日 (4 strokes) is divided from 勿 (4 strokes) by the horizontal line 一 (1 stroke); four strokes of 日 represent the four ⚊ ‘male’ trigrams (☰☳☵☶), and the four strokes of 勿 represent the four ⚋ ‘female’ trigrams (☷☴☲☱); the sum 九(􂤝) jiǔ ‘nine’ is the number of the 老阳 old yáng line about to break, creator of the 八卦 eight trigrams.
