<WL>响(F響) [xiǎng] sound/noise; echo; 影响 influence@@  [xiàng] cf. 響
The full form 響 is composed of xiāng phonetic over 音 (yīn) ‘sound’.
The simple-form character 响 (9 strokes) is an old abbrev. of (an old variant 㗽 of) the full-form character (20 strokes), replacing the component 鄉 (11 strokes) with 向 (6 strokes).
The simple form 响 is completely different, composed of (kǒu) ‘mouth’ and 向 xiàng phonetic. (It dates to the 明 dynasty, according to 李乐毅).
Note: 响⿰口向 ← 㗽⿱鄉口 ← 響⿱鄉音; the simple form 响 dates to the 明 Míng dynasty (李乐毅).
The Shuōwén Seal form of 響(􀜼) xiǎng ‘sound/noise’ combines 音 (yīn) ‘sound’, and 鄉(􁈌𨞰) xiǎng (phonosemantic); formerly wr. (HDZ).
