 The Shuōwén Seal form of 罪(􁓉𦋛) zuì ‘bamboo frame/weir, fishing net’ combines 罒(􁒺网) wǎng ‘net’, and 非(􂂈) fēi ‘oppose (current/flow)’ (phonosemantic).
-	Note: For the meaning 罪 ‘crime/error’, 罪 is a writing of 辠(􂥀) zuī/zuì, used because in Qín times the form 辠 was thought to look too much like the character 𦤃/皇(􀁡) huáng ‘emperor’ (DYC); and so 非 might be said to be phonosemantic for this (borrowed) meaning.
