The Shuōwén Seal form of 岂/豈() kǎi ‘triumphal music/paean/march’ (of army returning victorious) combines 豆() as in 壴(𧯛) ‘drum’ or 登() ‘mount/ascend’, and 𢼸() wéi/wēi ‘hidden/secret (inspection tour)’ (abbrev. phonosemantic); later wr. 凱, also 恺/愷(). | The simple-form character 岂 (6 strokes) is an abbrev. of the full-form character 豈 (10 strokes), replacing the lower full-form component 豆 (7 strokes) with 己 (3 strokes). | ||
