The Shuōwén Seal form of 屋(􁜮) wū ‘roof/house/room’ is said to combine 尸(􁜗𡰣) shī ‘person’ (owner of the house, as in 居), and 至(􂂕) zhì ‘arrive/at’ (arrive at the place where the property is located); formerly also wr. 𡲃(􁜯) and 𦤿(􁜰), the latter of which is also associated with 握 wò ‘hold’.
