“To act against an obstacle. Two divergent rods which one seeks to tie together; 从丿, 从象。束之形。Opposition, prohibition, negation” —Wieger. Karlgren says that 弗 may be the early form of 紼 ‘rope (tying two things together)’.
The Shuōwén Seal form of 弗(􂍀) fú ‘straighten/rectify (arrows/etc.)’ is said to combine two bent/opposing strokes 丿(􂌽) piě left and 乀(􂍁) fú right (the middle 2 strokes ), wound round with 韦/韋(􀻀􀻁𣍄) wéi ‘opposing; flexible leather strips’ (abbrev. phonosemantic); binding the two bent/opposing central things together with leather thongs, to straighten them out (negating their opposite tendencies).
Compare: 绋/紼(􂔂) fú ‘hemp fiber; rope’; 弗 seems to be the old wr. of 紼, as suggested by Karlgren(AD).
Note: Some suppose that in old graphs the central part is 弓 ‘(laminated) archery bow’, or two bows (or arrows) bound together in a straightening frame; however, old ‘bow’ graphs look rather different.
“[弗] To act against an obstacle. Two divergent rods which one seeks to tie together; 从丿, 从象。束之形。Opposition, prohibition, negation” —Wieger.
Compare: 夷(􁰜) yí ‘(fierce anc. eastern tribes)’ (彝族).
Compare: 非(􂂈) fēi ‘oppose/violate; not’.
Compare: 䚨(􀱔) fèi ‘bird-hunting arrow tether reel’.
