The Shuōwén Seal form of 则/則(􀯟) zé ‘divide up (according to value/grade)’ combines 刂(刀 dāo) ‘knife’, and 贝/貝 (bèi) ‘cowrie/money’; formerly wr. 𠟻(􀯠), with 賏(􁅎) yīng ‘cowrie-shell necklace’, and also 𠟭(􀯡) with 鼎(􁋋).
