+The Shuōwén Seal form of 食(􀷠𠊊) shí/sì ‘eat/food/feed’ combines 㿝(􀷕皀) jí/xiāng ‘fragrant/flavorful rice/grain’, and 亼(􀸰) jí ‘together’ (phonosemantic): cooked glutinous rice/grain coheres, bringing people together for meals.
-	As a component at the left side of characters, 食 is often written (full form:)飠 or (simple form:) 饣, as in 饭(飯) fàn ‘rice’ and 饿(餓) è ‘hungry’.
