“勹 a bundle 二 divided in two parts” —Karlgren(1923).
The Shuōwén Seal form of 匀(􁣋勻) yún ‘evenly-distributed’ (均匀) combines 勹(􁣆) bāo ‘wrap/encompass’, and 二(􂘚) èr ‘two’ (even/balanced number, of earth), as in 仁(􁕓) rén ‘benevolence’.
Possibly cognate with 均 jūn ‘equal’.
“勹 a bundle 二 divided in two parts” —Karlgren(1923).
Note: the “simple” and “full” forms 匀 and 勻 have only a trivial difference (冫 versus 二). We distinguish them because they are distinguished in the Unicode standard (匀 being mapped to a GB character, and 勻 being mapped to a Big5 character).
Compare: (􂘭) jūn ‘even; well-distributed’ (in which 匀 is said to be phonosemantic); 包(􁣘) bāo ‘wrap’; 𦣺(􁔺􁔹白) bái ‘white’.
Note: the “simple” and “full” forms 匀 and 勻 have only a trivial difference (冫 versus 二). They are distinguished in the Unicode standard because of “Source Separation” (they were separate in CNS; maps to GB, and 勻 to Big5).
