+The Shuōwén Seal form of 莫(􀋨𦶛) mù ‘twilight/dusk’ combines 𦬇(􀋧茻𦬠) mǎng/mǔ ‘thick plants/brush’ (phonosemantic), and 日 ‘sun’ (rising/setting).
-	The 日 sun fading away at the horizon, in the 艹大 plants (the bottom was originally also 艹(草 cǎo) ‘grass’, not 大 ‘big’). This meaning is preserved in the word 暮色 mùsè ‘twilight’ (莫 mò and 暮 mù are related).
+	The old meaning 暮色 ‘twilight/dusk’ is now written 暮 (with an extra 日 ‘sun’ below).
-	The similarity of 没 mò ‘disappear’ and 莫 mò ‘not exist’, must be coincidental — the old sounds were different: 没 *muet and 莫 *mak.
