<WL>豊(=􀵧𧯽􀀓禮S礼􀀔𠃞) [lǐ] (古) 禮: 祭祀用的礼器 sacrificial vessel; (component: 禮體澧醴鳢…)@@  [fēng] (俗字) 豐

The Shuōwén Seal form of 豊(􀵧𧯽) lǐ ‘sacrificial vessel’ is said to combine 豆(􀵠) dòu ‘covered ritual/food vessel’, with a shape above combining 凵(􀶫𠙴􀶬𥬔) qū ‘bamboo basket (for rice)’ and a component like 甡(􁃓􁃏𡴀丰), which in old graphs looks much like the top of 丰/豐(􀵩􀵪𣍈) fēng ‘abundance’. In fact, the main difference between 豊/𧯽 lǐ and 丰/豐 fēng in the Seal forms is that lǐ has 凵 qū ‘basket’ where fēng has 山(􁣾) shān ‘mountain’; in 豐 fēng the grain is in the mountain valleys (still growing), and in 豊 lǐ the grain is in a basket (harvested, ready to make sacrificial offering). The characters 𧯽 and 豐 are difficult to distinguish in old texts, since they differ by only the vertical stroke in the middle of 豐.
Cognate, or perhaps etymologically identical to 礼(禮) lǐ ‘ceremony’ and 醴 lǐ ‘sweet wine’.

Compare: 豐(􀵩􀵪𣍈) fēng ‘abundance’.

As a component in 礼/禮(􀀓𥜨) lǐ ‘ceremony’, the simple form 礼 replaces 豊 with 乚. The simple form is in fact very ancient, as shown by the old Shuōwén variant 礼(􀀔𠃞), which adds 乚(􁾒𡿨) to the right of 示(􀀐􀀑𥘅) shì ‘(radical 113)’.
