The character 𠂇(􀠸屮󰀆) zuǒ ‘left (subordinate) hand’ in the Seal is an abbreviation of the pictograph 手(􂄛) shǒu ‘hand’, with 3 fingers instead of 5, and with the forearm at the left (drawn from the perspective of looking at one's one left hand); it is 又(􀠋) yòu ‘(strong) right hand’ reversed.

The Shuōwén Seal form of 𠂇(􀠸屮󰀆) zuǒ ‘left (subordinate/helping) hand’ is the reverse of 又(􀠋) yòu ‘(strong) right hand’, drawn with the forearm at the left (as seen from the perspective of one looking at one's own left hand).
Note: Today the old meaning of 𠂇 zuǒ ‘left (hand/side)’ is wr. 左(􀴊) zuǒ, and 𠂇 is only used as a component (as in 左, 右, 有, 友); the old meaning of 左(􀴊) zuǒ ‘help’ is now wr. (cf. ).
+
Note: Formerly 𠂇 zuǒ ‘left (hand/side)’, later wr. 左(􀴊); formerly 左(􀴊) zuǒ ‘help’, later wr. 佐 (cf. 佑); the left/subordinate hand helps the right/dominant hand.
 +
Note: The SW gloss 𠂇手 ‘left hand’ (XX; glossing 𠂇 with itself) is also wr. 左手 ‘helping hand’ (XK/DYC); cf. 左.

Compare: 又(􀠋) yòu ‘(strong) right hand’ (with 3 fingers), an abbrev. of the pictograph 手(􂄛) shǒu ‘hand’ (with 5 fingers).

Compare: 廾(􀝏𠬞) gǒng ‘upraised/respectful hands’; 屮(􀃿) chè ‘sprout/branches’.

Note: As a component 𠂇 (左字头) is sometimes a variant of 又; cf. 左(􀴊), vs. 右(􀠌𠮢), 有(􁊑𪠥), 友(􀠴㕛).
