The Shuōwén Seal form of 陆(􂢩陸) lù ‘(high/level) dry land’ combines 阝(􂢢𨸏阜) fù ‘hill’, and 坴(􂘴) lù ‘big clods (of earth)’ (phonosemantic); an old variant form 𠃈(􂢪) has 𠒶(􀄇𡴫𡴪) on the right, tripling 圥(􀄆𡴆) lù ‘mushroom’; cf. 坴.
The simple-form character 陆 (7 strokes) is an abbrev. of the full-form character 陸 (10 strokes), replacing the full-form component 坴 (8 strokes) with 击 (5 strokes).
Note: In the simple form, the right-side component 坴 is reduced to a shape like 击.
