The character 虞() yú ‘legendary animal’ (騶虞) combines 虍(虎) hǔ ‘tiger’ (abbrev.), and 吴/吳() wú ‘throw one's head back and yell’ (phonosemantic): seeing the beast, a man yells in fear/surprise/joy, at not being eaten. | |||
