| + | The character 𦘒(帇) niè in Shuōwén (DYC) is said to be a component of 聿() yù ‘brush (painting/writing)’, but some guess that 𦘒/聿 (and perhaps even 筆) were originally variants of the same character (HDZ). In Middle Chinese (SBGY) the readings were quite different: 𦘒 niè is a homophone of 𥬬(籋) niè (with -p coda); 聿 yù heads a different homophone group (with -t coda); compare the Karlgren (GSR) and Baxter (1992) reconstructions of 聿 yù and 筆 bǐ. | ||
